Asitshaleni cooperative and Ramasega farms in Bronkorspruit
Bronkorspruit is has been identified as the hub of agriculture, having several small growing farmers and some thriving towards commercialization.
There are two potential entities in the area that would like to be contracted to a constant market in empowering their production; these are the Ramasega farms and Asitshaleni cooperative. These entities farm on chickens and pigs. The government encourages farmers to form cooperatives in order to have easy access to incentives and to have some kind of concerted effort. However these farmers are faced with challenges in terms of up to standard marketing facilities in ensuring efficient production and lack of organized markets to ensure consistency and good profits to improve their units. The Ramasega farm and Asitshaleni cooperative will hereafter be referred to as Asitshaleni cooperative.
Asitshaleni cooperative can currently produce a total of 4000 broiler chickens per cycle consisting of 6 members with one farmer producing 20 dozens of eggs per day. The reason they are not producing enough is that they are never sure if there will be a passer by coming to buy protein for a night meal or not and their plan is to up their production to 6 thousand a month being 1500 a week should they identify an organized market. These will up their current to 6000 broiler chickens a month. They are not only farming on chickens but pigs. They can currently have about 50 to 80 porkers a month.
